My India

In a recent incident that happened in Agra-India, a poor man accidentally got run over by a train. Miraculously he survived the incident. He had lost both his limbs and couldn’t move. As he lay bloodied in the tracks, people surround  him and watch. They keep watching. A few found the incident so funny that they laughed over it. Not a single man upheld his manhood and came forward to lend a hand. While all this was happening, a second train was on its way over the same tracks. Upon seeing the speeding train, the crowd instead of removing the man from the tracks,  just signal/shout at the train to stop. As expected the train doesn’t heed and run over the man the second time. Believe it or not, the man survives again. The crowd by this time gathers some sense and carries him away. He dies on his way to the hospital. His death was not because of the train but because of the insensitivity shown by the people. He had lost too much blood by the time rescue came his way.

In an India where we boast of the number of billionaires, most expensive residential house, emerging world player , world military power etc etc, people are still uncultured and unrefined. This trait is not at all limited to the poor people but spans across rich and the affluent too. I remember once how a Mercedes stopped by a bridge, its driver coming out with a load of plastic waste and throwing it down the sea below. Now what type of education do we inculcate in such a rich fellow? Civic Sense is zero across Indians while self respect shoots above the Mount Everest. If an American or an European laughs on our state of affairs, we take it as an insult but at the same time do not try to make amendments towards it. Contemporary Indian Society believes in Killing the messenger rather than directly dealing with the problem. In a recent Incident wherein three politicians in Karnataka –India were caught watching porn clips in their mobile phones by a private news channel, the state parliament banned the entry of news channels inside the house. I just grinned and switched off the TV, imagining myself breaking the jaws of those ministers like every good citizen might have done.

In a country where corruption is embedded so deep, in a country which lives on duplicity each passing second, and in a country where politicians are more criminals than educated ones, I fear the future. I fear the future of the young ones getting born without a guarantee that he/she will have a secure future. I fear the type of education that the young ones will receive and if they could benefit the society. I fear if these young minds will tomorrow become as selfish and unmoved by the sorry state of affairs surrounding them and I fear that I myself becoming a proud father one day is unknowingly contributing to the wretchedness of our society.

The hope is however not dead and the fact remains that India is still progressing. Everyday I come across one story or another wherein a successful man quits his job for helping the poor, teaching the underprivileged, generating funds for making roads and schools etc etc, and its because of these god sent humans that this country still survives. It also proves the fact that like a Bull is equal to a thousand Cats, One good Human is equal to a thousand corrupt souls too.

The Last Fight

I have always found crows to be an embodiment of evil and I haven’t liked them since the day I saw them first. This hatred and in its purest form had partly to do with their attacks on a much younger me. Inspite of my hatred though, I had liked their strategy of a combined - coordinated attack on their enemies, most of which were simply assumed by them to be one. They had assumed the same for me too but this time they had got it right. I had bought a catapult from the local market solely with an aim to victimize them. My free time after school was busy shooting at them with stone, seeds and basically whatever was thrownable. There came a time when even the victory sign of my fingers used to scare them as it resembled a Catapult. My presence itself created such pandemonium in their circles that people use to come out of their houses to see what happened. I had been even attacked by their supposedly suicide squads with one of them giving my head a hard evil peck. All my years while we stayed there, I constantly posed a threat to them and vice versa. As time might have it, I had to go away for further studies and the crows there got the much needed breather.
Many years down the line and many many miles away from my battlefield, I experienced a new war and a whole new battle field. The Mango and leechi trees were replaced by many high rise buildings but one thing remained the same. The evil or the villain were still the crows. In an entirely new city and modern by all aspects, i saw three crows busy attacking a kite who did all the possible aerial maneuvers to dodge them but in vain. The crows had learnt their moves pretty well and I was amazed to see their polished skills in the sky. I saw the poor kite getting more of a dozen pecks and claws and i was expecting the kite to give up any moment. I saw a few more crows joining in the ensuing melee. The ratios were against him and his desperation showed in his moves. In a surprising turn of events, I suddenly saw the kite turn and attack back. I was taken aback. Had I had an MP3 then, I would have definitely put it on playing the Rocky theme at full volume. I didn’t have it but it didn’t by any means lessen my joy of watching this lone kite fight. He picked up one of them and being unresponsive to the others chased him through the high-rises at great speeds. The chase was on when they flew below some buildings and disappeared. I stood there hoping to catch their silhouettes against the golden backdrop of the setting sun. They never came.
As I started to walk back home, I kept looking out for any crows nearby just for the heck of it when i saw one perched atop a light post. Reflective of my past, I gestured the victory sign at him expecting to scare him away and get my own share of laugh. The crow looked at me for a moment……. and then simply turned his head away..

Economic Theories and how they fare in real life...

That fine morning around 4 years back, I found a new face adjacent to my place at office. He was a new joinee who would be looking after a different business unlike mine. We exchanged greeting, introduced ourselves and went for lunch with few of my office friends together. This guy whom I would name Mr “Y” eventually became one of my best friends in office. We partied together, introduced each other to each others circle of friends, and we both were happy to have found a good friend in each other. This all lasted for 4 years when in a sudden turn of events , he left the job and joined a different company. His new profile was to handle the same business that I was involved in. A few months hence and as luck would have it, we both started engaging a Strategic Client for a high value deal without the knowledge that the other was involved too. To be Continued…

Intermission
  • The famous economist Adam Smith says  "In competition, individual ambition serves the common good."
  • John Nash however counters him by saying – “The best result will come where everyone in the group does what is best for himself ... and the group”
  • My Take – In a competitive event , at the slightest hint of non-cooperation, play an individual game and be ruthless.
Lets see what happens next and what could we infer from it –
Intermission Ends

Continued… I was busy trying to close the case when I got a call from the client informing me that the other company has given him a better deal and someone called “Y” was already in the verge of signing agreements the next day. This business was important for me knowing equally that “Y” would be needing it as desperately. The very next moment I called Mr “Y” and told him to divide the deal amongst ourselves wherein we both pass a loan of half of his requirement (John Nash Idea). Mr Y Agreed to my proposal but sadly that’s what I had thought. Next day Mr Y had gone ahead sanctioning the full amount. His explanation was that he thought the requirement was of 10 and he cleared only 5 leaving the rest 5 to me. I bought his explanation until when I asked him if he had met the client personaly to which he denied not knowing the client had already confirmed his meeting with Y. The client had made his requirement of 5 very clear leaving no room for any ambiguity as such. That day I had not only lost a client but also a friend but nonetheless I would thank him for making me a wee bit more wiser and a lot more ruthless. Bidding Adieu our friendship, I wished him luck if ever we meet for a showdown again...

Inference – Unless there is a conflict of interests, every person around you would act as a very loving and a harmless human being. It’s the Conflict of interests that will differentiate between the real and the fake and provide you with an opportunity to see the hidden fangs.

Quandaries of a thinking mind..

Going through a webpage, I came across a quote by Josh Billings which said – “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself”. This quote made me sit back from work and think..... and so I thought. I thought of how great this world would be if all humans got their brains transplanted with those of dogs. How peaceful and loving would the society be then? Will we still compose rock, death metal etc or will we compose only soul and blues? Will we still waste time inventing and re-inventing nukes rather be lazing around in the porch? While thinking on such lines I went for a stroll and all of a sudden saw dogs making gangs and bulling a lone dog which probably might have lost his way. The dog was busy protecting his tail from the invading swarm of canines and in the process was able to make a perfect circle of his body whose circumference probably would have been 2 pi r + x with x being the distance between his nose and.... you know what. In a sad state of being grounded on my own blossoming theory, I then thought of replacing our brains with those of a …..

I just figured out this funny thing. Interchanging the words do not change their meanings. A little thought into it and you might like it. It shows that love can only happen when the entities involved are similar even if the entities are bad and when they are not, there’s just hatred  ;-))…

  • Love to hate = Hatred
  • Hate to Love = Hatred

  • Love to Love = Love
  • Hate to Hate = Love
